What an incredible Westpac Ride for Cure 2020!

I just wanted to take some time to thank everyone for their generous contributions and provide an update.

For the 4th year of riding to cure cancer, we cycled 400kms in 3 days, educating school children on the cancer prevention message and thanks to you, we raised an amazing $1.03 million.

Whilst on tour we also provided $570,000.00 in grants!!

  • 2 x $200,000 Research Grant – one to Dr Marina Pajic of the Garvan Institute for research into pancreatic cancer which has a high morbidity rate.  The second grant to Associate Professor Tao Liu for research into childhood cancer mainly neuroblastoma

  • 1 x $100,000 Community Support Grant – to Camp Quality – which gives children 0-13 going through cancer treatment the chance to be kids again. The money will fund three additional wellbeing camps.

  • 2 x $10,000 Community Support Grants – one to Daffodil Cottage Bathurst to purchase medical equipment which will allow cancer patients to stay home longer, the second to Katoomba Cancer Wellness to provide home care packages to cancer patients who fall through the gap for Government funding

  • 1 x $50,000 Prevention Grant – this is used for Tour de Cure Kid’s packs which will be handed out during our school visits to teach kids about cancer and to spread the “Be Fit, Be Happy, Be Healthy” cancer prevention message

In Australia there is a gap between how much cancer research the government can fund, and requests for funding. It may have been a hard ride, but the Westpac Ride for a Cure team has made a substantial contribution towards Australian cancer research, prevention and awareness programs. We’re so proud to partner with Westpac.

Thank you to everyone who has made this Tour so special. Every dollar raised makes an incredible difference.

Regards,

Izzac Scott
